Matti Valkama – well planned is half done
Matti Valkama, Engineering Manager, brings a strong foundation in engineering and expertise in protective relays. These relays are critical to the safety and reliability of substations, and Matti’s specialized knowledge ensures that NEPower’s substation projects meet the highest quality and safety standards. His meticulous planning and attention to detail are key to NEPower’s project success.
One of the main reasons Matti joined NEPower was the opportunity to be at the core of growth and development. He values the chance to contribute to the company’s success and leave his own mark on each project.
Although he primarily works in the substation sector, Matti is also involved in renewable energy projects. He is responsible for project design and appreciates that all operations, from planning to implementation, are managed in-house without relying on external contractors. This structure enhances workflow efficiency and streamlines communication with clients.
Matti emphasizes the importance of teamwork and appreciates the company’s low hierarchy, which enables quick responses to project needs. He sees the recruitment of skilled professionals as the biggest challenge, given the shortage of experienced electrical engineers. However, he believes that the company’s strong sense of community and proactive culture help attract and retain talented employees.
In his spare time, Matti balances work with family life and is actively involved in his children’s activities, including coaching his older daughter’s volleyball team. When possible, he heads to the padel courts to stay fit and connect with friends.
