
NEPower (Nordic Electro Power Oy) and Alpiq signed an agreement on grid connection construction for Finland’s largest battery energy storage project
Haapajärvi, 30 June 2025 — NEPower and Alpiq, a leading Swiss electricity producer and energy service provider, have signed an agreement on the construction of a grid connection to the largest battery energy storage system (BESS) to be built in Finland, to date and a related 110/33 kV substation in Haapajärvi. The power /capacity of the BESS will be 125MW/250 MWh.
It is a strategically important project for NEPower, which strengthens the company’s position as a reliable supplier of large and modern power infrastructure projects.
The project manager at NEPower will be Riku Kohtamäki, who comments:

Construction work for the substation is scheduled to begin in 2025.
